Online Prescriptions from Online Doctors

Walk In’s team of  online doctors can assess, diagnose, and prescribe medication for many minor or non-urgent conditions — all through our fast, easy-to-use telehealth platform. For British Columbians, getting an online doctor’s prescription has never been simpler.

During your telehealth appointment, our doctors will take a medical history, virtually examine you where appropriate, and decide if a prescription medication is necessary. Prescribing is always at the discretion and medical judgment of the treating physician.

Awkward Conversations About Medications? Not With Us

Walk In understands that you might have concerns that might feel awkward to speak about with someone in person. That is why our BC-licensed online doctors take pride in delivering non-judgmental and patient-centered care from the privacy of your home. We encourage open and honest dialogue so that we can help you to feel better.

The doctors on our virtual care platform have experience prescribing for common conditions such as acne, hair loss, erectile dysfunction, sexually-transmitted infections (STIs), weight loss, and more. If you need a confidential doctor’s note we can provide those as well.

How to Get a Prescription Refill Online In BC

Need a prescription refill but don’t have a family doctor, or can’t get an appointment in time? Walk In makes it straightforward to get your prescription refilled online in BC — no in-person visit required.

Many routine medications can be refilled through telehealth when clinically appropriate. Our online doctors will review your history, discuss your current health, and send the prescription directly to the pharmacy of your choice (or have it delivered free to your door).

You may have heard that BC pharmacists can now prescribe for certain minor ailments. That option works for some people, but it still requires an in-person pharmacy visit and the list of what pharmacists can prescribe is limited. With Walk In, you’ll see a fully licensed physician from home, and your visit is covered by MSP.

What Our Doctors Can Prescribe For

Walk In’s online doctors can prescribe for a broad range of common, non-urgent conditions when medically indicated. Whether you’re dealing with a sudden illness, managing an ongoing condition, or want to discuss something private, telehealth makes it easier to get what you need.

Everyday Illnesses and Infections

Our doctors can assess and prescribe for common concerns like cold and flu symptoms, sinus infections, UTIs, cold sores, minor skin infections, and seasonal allergies. These are exactly the kinds of conditions a traditional walk in clinic would handle — just without the waiting room.

Ongoing and Repeat Prescriptions

If you take medication for a stable, ongoing condition and can’t get to your regular doctor for a refill, we can provide repeat prescriptions online when it’s clinically appropriate. A short telehealth appointment with a doctor at our virtual walk in clinic is often all it takes.

Sensitive and Private Concerns

Some conditions are easier to discuss from the comfort of home. Our doctors have experience prescribing for and managing conditions such as acne, hair loss, erectile dysfunction, obesity and a range of sexual health concerns. We’ll always treat you compassionately and  without judgment.

Please note: Walk In is not a pharmaceutical manufacturer, nor are we an online pharmacy.

So happy to have been able to speak with a doctor. It has been difficult to get an appointment anywhere. This was quick & easy!

Awesome experience! Love being able to connect with a doctor online. As a deaf person, the text/chat feature is fantastic. Thanks for a great experience!

Wonderful! Experienced doctor who listened and acted. I wish she was my family doctor.

I am so grateful for Walk In! I have a cold and I couldn’t find a clinic that wasn’t booked up for the next two weeks and didn’t feel I needed to go to urgent care. I could get an appointment with Walk In the next morning and was able to get reassurance and guidance from the doc! Any virus is freaky these days and I appreciate Walk In making it possible to be seen by a doctor.

The doctor called me early which is very appreciated. She was easy to talk to and was very reassuring and helpful. Thank you so much!

Getting an appointment was so easy, I’ve been looking for an option for a while. I’m so happy I’ve found you.

Thanks for having an available appointment for tomorrow! The accessibility of this clinic/service is precisely what is needed in our healthcare system!

The website is extremely easy to follow and use. Such a breath of fresh air. So many sites nowadays are impossible to navigate. Thank you for putting time and effort into your site!

Thank you, that was easy to do even with a fever and feeling really lousy!

Wow! What a great experience video chatting with the doctor. She was kind and patient with me as I explained my concerns. I will be picking up a prescription this afternoon. She also advised me on what to look for if the infection got worse and when to go to see a doctor in person. What a great service you offer and a gap you fill for patients. Thank you ❤️

FAQs About Online Prescriptions in Canada

Still have questions about getting a prescription online in Canada? Answers to the most common questions below.

Can I use Walk In to get a prescription online?

Yes. Our BC-licensed online doctors can write prescriptions for common, non-urgent conditions when medically warranted. Prescribing is always at the discretion and medical judgment of the treating physician. Prescriptions can be faxed directly to a pharmacy of your choice, or a pharmacy can deliver them to your door for free.

What Kind of Prescriptions Can I Get Online?

Many doctors feel comfortable prescribing routine prescriptions online (such as prescriptions for non-severe conditions like acne or seasonal allergies). If you need refills for a previously filled medication (such as birth control or thyroid medication), our online doctors may provide you with refills that can be sent to a local pharmacy. For some chronic or severe conditions, you may need to get your prescription from a regular healthcare provider, such as a family doctor or a specialist. They are also able to provide online doctor’s notes when necessary. Our doctors cannot fill any controlled prescriptions such as narcotics, benzodiazepines, sedatives, or stimulants.

Can I Take My Prescription To An In-Person Pharmacy

Absolutely, you can always take a prescription that you received online to an in-person pharmacy. Our doctors can also directly fax it to a pharmacy of your choice. When booking, simply select the pharmacy that you usually go to or one that is nearest to you.

How Do I Find An Online Pharmacy?

In Canada, pharmacies (including those online) are regulated by the pharmacy regulatory authority in the province or territory in which they are located. You can verify if an online pharmacy is legitimate by looking up the pharmacy through the website of the provincial pharmacists regulatory authority to confirm that they are licensed. Never fill a prescription with a suspicious-looking or unverified website online.

Are My Prescriptions Covered?

Prescriptions are not covered under MSP. They may be covered if you have Extended Health Benefits. Some prescriptions can be covered under the Fair PharmaCare plan once your deductible is met. Other prescriptions are covered under a program called Special Authority. Make sure to ask your pharmacist or physician about this plan. You can apply for it here.

Are travel related visits covered under MSP?

Unfortunately travel related visits are not covered under MSP. Any visit related to travel concerns, including vaccination requests, would be billed on a private basis. Not all physicians on Walk In provide travel related care. Please contact us prior to booking a travel related visit.

How Do I Refill a Prescription Online in BC?

Book a telehealth appointment through Walk In, and one of our BC-licensed online doctors will review your history and current health. If a refill is clinically appropriate, they can send the prescription directly to your preferred pharmacy. It’s often possible to get a refill the same day you book.

Can I Get a Prescription Refill Without Seeing My Family Doctor?

Yes. You don’t need to have an existing family doctor to book with Walk In. Our online doctors can refill routine prescriptions for stable conditions (such as birth control, thyroid medication, or blood pressure medication) when you can’t get into your regular doctor.
