How an Online Doctor Can Help With Asthma
A focused review of symptoms, treatment and next steps.
Health Review
Review daytime and night-time symptoms, inhaler use and recent attacks. A physician can consider inhaler technique, triggers and whether breathing tests or an examination are needed.
Care Options
An asthma plan should address daily control and what to do when symptoms worsen. Medication review should fit your existing action plan and ongoing care.
When to Act
Call 911 for severe breathing difficulty, trouble speaking, or an attack that is worsening or not responding to your prescribed reliever plan. Do not wait for a routine appointment.
Discuss Asthma With a Physician
Walk In connects eligible patients in its service areas with BC-licensed physicians for phone or video appointments. The physicians provide the medical care.
MSP-covered visits are free for eligible patients.
Understanding Asthma
Asthma causes variable airway inflammation and narrowing. Symptoms may come and go, but frequent reliever use, night waking or activity limitation can indicate that control needs review.
Care and Treatment
Treatment commonly includes inhaled medicines and attention to triggers. Correct technique and follow-up matter. A focused appointment can address concerns, while regular asthma reviews remain part of care with your usual clinician.

Questions About Asthma
What Does It Mean if I Need My Reliever More Often?
Increasing reliever use, night waking or avoiding normal activities can indicate that asthma is not well controlled. It is a reason to review the treatment plan, even if the inhaler still gives temporary relief. Your own written asthma action plan may already specify what to do when symptoms increase.
A physician can review triggers, inhaler technique and preventive treatment. Severe breathing difficulty, difficulty speaking or poor response to your prescribed rescue treatment needs urgent care rather than a routine medication review.
Could My Inhaler Technique Be Why Treatment Is Not Helping?
Yes. Different inhalers need different techniques, and small errors can reduce how much medicine reaches the airways. Device difficulty can also look like a treatment failure. Have the inhaler and any spacer available, and explain exactly how you use and clean them.
A physician or pharmacist can review technique, the device choice and whether you are using the intended inhaler at the right time. Bring all inhalers, including ones used only occasionally, so reliever and maintenance treatments are not confused.
Can Asthma Cause a Persistent Cough Without Obvious Wheezing?
It can, but persistent cough has several possible causes, including a recent infection, nasal symptoms, reflux and medication effects. A cough that occurs at night, with exercise or around known triggers may be relevant, but it does not establish asthma on its own.
A physician can review the pattern, past breathing tests and response to treatment. Lung-function testing or an examination may be useful before changing the diagnosis or increasing treatment. Mention smoking, vaping and any new breathlessness or chest symptoms.
